Eligibility Tool: Terms & Conditions

The Eligibility Tools are provided by Experian to The Motley Fool, a trading name of The Motley Fool Ltd

By providing us your personal information (‘data’) and your agreement to proceed with the eligibility tools, you are consenting to your data being used in accordance with our Privacy Policy, and for the purposes of the eligibility tools, which are as follows:

You will be provided with a facility whereby you can enter your data, following which your data may be forwarded to Experian, a Credit Reference Agency (CRA), and used in accordance with the Experian Privacy Policy. Experian will carry out a soft credit search, following which a credit card eligibility score will be provided to us, and will then be relayed to you. The Motley Fool will merely transfer your data and will not at any point in time keep or maintain a record of your data.

In providing this service, we are not providing any personal advice or recommendation of suitability for any credit product, neither are we providing any guarantee that you will be offered a credit card, or the terms that may apply. Please note, there  may be credit card products available from lenders who are not represented by this service, and that will not be considered.

In order to obtain your credit card eligibility score, Experian will carry out a soft credit search, which will leave a soft footprint on your credit report that does not affect your credit rating or your ability to obtain credit.

Should you choose to apply for a credit card, your data will need to be provided to the lender who will carry out a full credit check, provide you with a credit decision and the terms and conditions that will apply should your application be successful. A further footprint will be left on your credit report, which may affect your credit rating and your subsequent ability to gain credit elsewhere.

Experian may forward your data to other organisations including other CRAs and Lenders, and may be used for the purposes of:

  • fraud prevention
  • identity verification
  • tracing and debt collection
  • statistical analysis
  • providing credit card eligibility results
  • completing a credit card application
  • maintaining these eligibility tools

The identities of CRAs, their role also as fraud prevention agencies, the data they hold, the ways in which they use and share personal information, data retention periods and your data protection rights with the CRAs are explained in more detail at www.experian.co.uk/legal/crain. CRAIN is also accessible from each of the three CRAs – clicking on any of these three links will also take you to the same CRAIN document:
