Managing Email from The Fool

Q1. Where is the page on which I can manage email from the Fool?

  1. Scroll down any editorial page (the ones under the Home tab) till you can see the yellow box in the left margin.

Q2. I would like to stop receiving the Lunchtime Mail/Weekly Digest/Monthly Newsletter

You can stop receiving our subscription emails by visiting the The Motley Fool Direct page. (Follow the instructions in the first question above.) Once you have entered your email address and reached the Subscribe/Unsubscribe page. Just make sure that the box next to the email you wish to unsubscribe from is not set (that it is empty) and click "Submit".

Q3. I notice that the Fool sometimes sends out promotional emails with offers from its partners. I don't like this sort of email. How can I avoid getting these?

We only send this sort of email occasionally (we have set a ceiling at once or twice a month) and the revenue from the advertising in these emails contributes to us being able to offer the rest of our service free. Nevertheless if you are sure that you don't want them you should visit the Motley Fool Direct page and enter your email address. Then follow the directions for unsubscribing from the list called 'Special Offers'.

  2. Enter you new email address (twice in order to be certain).
  3. Hit the "Submit" button.

Q6. When I read the emails from Fool-UK my computer tries to connect to the internet. What is going on?

First of all don't panic. This isn't anything sinister. The most likely explanation is that you have set your computer to "connect when needed" and you are receiving email from us in HTML format. When you open the message your email program is trying to get an image which is mentioned in the message.

  1. Immediate solution: If you let it get through and retrieve the pictures it should do so in less than the time taken to load a typical Fool web page. On the other hand it would do no harm to just click cancel if that is available.
  2. Long Term Solution: - any one of these should do the trick.
    1. Change your computer's settings so that it does not automatically connect to the internet when needed
    2. Open the email from us while you are still online, then disconnect and read offline.
    3. Switch your email preferences to "Plain Text" - it is at item 2 on the usual page. (Follow the instructions in question one
