When investing, your capital is at risk. The value of your investments can go down as well as up and you may get back less than you put in.

Investments in a currency other than sterling are exposed to currency exchange risk. Currency exchange rates are constantly changing, which may affect the value of the investment in sterling terms. You could lose money in sterling even if the stock price rises in the currency of origin. Stocks listed on overseas exchanges may be subject to additional dealing and exchange rate charges, and may have other tax implications, and may not provide the same, or any, regulatory protection as in the UK.

There’s never enough hours in the day and it can be hard to consume all the personal finance information you’d like. Listening to money podcasts can solve this problem and help improve your finances, whether you’re commuting, out on a walk or jog or even in the background while you’re working!

But with so many to choose from, it’s hard to know where to start. I’ve complied a list of five money podcasts that will help improve your finances.

Informed Choice Radio – Make the Most of Your Money

Personal finance is all about choices – ideally informed ones. This money podcast helps you do just that.

Unlike lots of money podcasts, Informed Choice Radio is hosted by a Chartered Financial Planner. He’s also a fellow of the Personal Finance Society and a personal finance author, so he really does know his stuff.

With two episodes a week, listeners can digest a lot of information each week.

Rather than focusing just on short-term issues, Informed Choice Radio delves deeper into personal finance topics, examining topics such as the purpose of wealth and how to have a fulfilling retirement.

The Money to the Masses Podcast

In this personal finance podcast, Damien Fahy and Andy Leeks chat about all things finance.

This isn’t unusual for a personal finance podcast, but the way such a range of complex topics are explained in clear, bitesize chunks is. One recent episode seamlessly covers: investing for an economic rebound; how insurance companies benefit from customers adding indexation to their policies; and which type of pet insurance might be right for you!

This is a particularly good money podcast for time-pressed people as each episode is split into four segments of about 10 minutes each.

Damien also does a Midweek Markets roundup every Wednesday, which is less than 10 minutes – a great way to keep up with the most important headlines from global investment markets during the working week.

AJ Bell Money & Markets

Fund managers and investment platforms are a hugely underrated resource for investing information. They produce in-depth analysis on market movements, geopolitical events and even individual firms.

The problem is, this information is often complex and hard to digest, particularly when you’re busy.

That’s why AJ Bell’s podcast is a particularly good resource. Co-presented by Laura Suter, AJ Bell’s personal finance analyst, and Daniel Coatsworth, editor of Shares Magazine, this money podcast breaks down the jargon and complicated world of investing in an engaging way.

This personal finance podcast will probably be more useful if you’re a seasoned investor, but investing newbies can pick up some good tips too.

Money Clinic with Claer Barrett (Financial Times)

Every week, Claer talks to a listener about their money queries and consults her rolodex of financial advisors, planners and writers for no-nonsense and informed guidance that will help all of us feel more confident making our money work.

Like many other money podcasts, this one covers a broad range of personal finance issues. However, what sets it apart from other personal finance podcasts is that Claer uses real-life examples.

Individuals come on the money podcast and discuss problems they’re facing right now and Claer calls on a team of experts – from writers to analysts and financial advisers – to help get to the bottom of the problem.

Cash Chats with Andy Webb

If you’re grappling with personal finance issues and want to get to grips with the basics, Andy holds the answers you need.

With two episodes a week, this personal finance podcast is packed full of information for listeners.

One episode a week offers a deep dive into a particular aspect of personal finance, from where to get the best credit card deals to whether you should be concerned about potential negative interest rates.

For the second podcast episode, Andy talks to a money blogger or journalist about the latest developments in the world of personal finance. He discusses issues ranging from energy price hikes to fast fashion, meaning there’s nearly always at least one topic that will appeal to any listener.

Perfect for beginners – as well as personal finance pros – this money podcast can help set you on the right path for your personal finance journey.

Bonus podcast

If you like these money podcasts, you might also like Motley Fool Money. Chris Hill hosts a panel of investment analysts as they cover each week’s business and financial news headlines, keeping you up to date with everything happening in the US markets.

Should you invest, the value of your investment may rise or fall and your capital is at risk. Before investing, your individual circumstances should be assessed. Consider taking independent financial advice.
