A new study from the Centre for Mental Health has warned that the pandemic is likely to increase the number of people in Britain experiencing mental health problems in the next two years. If you are in any way struggling with your mental health, it may be encouraging to hear that support in the form of mental health apps is available.

Catch It is an app that helps users to better understand their moods through an ongoing diary. It is completely free and focuses on how to manage feelings like anxiety and depression.

2. My Possible Self
My Possible Self is another free mental health app that is recommended by the NHS. It uses simple learning modules to manage fear, anxiety and stress and tackle unhelpful thinking.
The self-help modules use proven psychological methods, such as CBT and positive psychology, to equip you with skills to navigate your emotions. There is also a mood tracker that helps you highlight activities, places and people that influence your mood.
3. What’s Up?
What’s Up? is a free mental health app that uses acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) and CBT methods to help users cope with depression, anxiety and stress. It breaks down the 12 most common negative thinking patterns and offers simple methods to overcome them.
There is a positive and negative habit tracker to help you maintain good habits. There is also a grounding game which contains over 100 fun questions designed to help keep you grounded and in the present when stress is taking over.
If you are after some interaction with a trained professional, then Ieso is a mental health app that connects you with a therapist trained in CBT.
Featured in the NHS apps library, Ieso offers an online course using instant messaging. Additionally, All the therapy is by text, so you can review your sessions at any time. The course of therapy treatment is free for NHS patients in many areas. You can check if you are eligible through the Ieso website.

ChillPanda is an app that aims to help users be just that: chilled. It is a gentle, free game in which you navigate a panda around a virtual world. The app measures your heart rate and suggests tasks to suit your state of mind. Tasks include simple breathing techniques and light exercises to take your mind off your worries.
MoodTools is an app designed to lift your mood if you are feeling sad or depressed. Features include a thought diary that helps you to identify negative thinking patterns based on the principles of CBT. It offers activities based on behavioural activation therapy that will help to energise you. There is also a PHG-9 depression questionnaire that helps you to track your symptom severity over time.
