Duelling Fools -- Eidos

Following the battle royal which developed between Rob Davies (TMF Essex) and Stuart Watson (TMF Tiger) in the debut Duelling Fools when the tussle was about soaring supermarket chain Tesco (LSE: TSCO), two more Fools have been brought forward for your further entertainment.

This time around the subject up for discussion is Eidos (LSE: EID), the progenitor of Lara Croft, the generously proportioned Tomb Raider. This computer games maker has seen its shares surge ahead more than 500% this year.

Sales at Christmas are particularly vital for the group. Parents are forced to buy suitable gifts for their children to keep them quiet in that difficult period between stocking opening and turkey time. So in this seasonal spirit we have hand-picked two Fools to present the case for and against the computer games specialist.

In the bull corner we have Christopher Spink (TMFEagle), a firm devotee of growth stocks with technological aspirations. Fighting for the bears, who have been moping around lately in the current heady atmosphere muttering about value, is Maynard Paton (TMFMayn), who likes to pull out his slide rule at every possible opportunity.

Before sinking your Foolish teeth into the fight, here are a brief reminder of the rules of engagement. We've set up a Duelling Fools board and through the links below you can find the 'bull' and 'bear' posts on the subject. Have a look at both arguments and then vote for one of them using the 'Recommend' button.

If you want to stir things up or comment on either side of the argument use the 'Post Reply' feature in the usual way. After a few days the initial TMFs opening the debate will be allowed to come back and fight their corners. The winner will be the side that has the most recommendations on their two posts.

That's the Geneva convention over with, so let's join battle. Steady though, we want a fair and clean fight boys…

The Bull...

"Ask most people about Eidos and they'll wink at you, especially if you're male, and mention Lara Croft, the busty brunette. This is amazing. Why? Well the outstanding Lara is the first and only cyber celebrity I can remember. To gain such widespread acknowledgement as an artificial star requires some imagination and a certain talent from her creators at Eidos..." more

The Bear...

"I'm trembling at the very thought of writing this feature. Having perused the busy Eidos message board, it appears no one is an out and out "sell" on Eidos. In fact the word "sell" is non existent, on a board littered with, it must be said, quite accurate short predictions of rapid share price growth..." more
