The Motley Fool's Best Articles of the Year

By Christopher Spink

What a year! Investors everywhere have been left breathless by the tech turmoil that has swept the world's financial markets. Over the past year the Motley collection of individuals that make up the Fool's editorial team have contributed thousands of articles, commenting on the diverse events that have littered the start of the second Millennium.

Many in the UK have had the stuffing knocked out of them by scandals at once-proud financial institutions. This year Equitable Life has shut for new business and the Stock Exchange almost became Swedish. Some venerable old girls just seem to go on forever though. The Queen Mum celebrated her century in fine financial health. And the Fool, 97 years younger, finds herself in good fettle!

To celebrate Christmas and another year of financial Foolery we have chosen a cocktail of cheering stories, representing the best of the Fool in 2000. You, dear reader, or dare we suggest Fool, must choose which one is the best of our best. Read the articles, savour them and then after you have spat them out like a good wine, vote for your favourite!

Foolish co-founder Bruce Jackson (TMFGoogly) puts forward a Foolish manifesto: Be your own IFA!

Nigel Roberts (TMFNigel) raises a glass to the Queen Mum as she hits 100 and discovers the amazing financial truths her century shows us.

Long-term investors often revere Warren Buffett as their ideal model. Maynard Paton's (TMFMayn) detailed dissection of the Sage of Omaha's methods shows up his true short-term nature.

Back in February at the height of the tech frenzy Foolish value guru Stephen Bland (TMFPyad) managed to keep his head, musing about the options open to value investors in the wake of the bubble bursting.

In April the UK's 3G mobile telecom licences fetched a staggering £6b each. The real money Rule Shaker portfolio has invested heavily in the Wireless Internet. David Berger (TMFFoolUK) looks beyond the hype.
