Top 5 Excuses for a Profit Warning

As the calendar year comes to a close, each trading day seems to bring new profit warnings. This is our light-hearted look at some of the excuses companies may make to their shareholders in the run up to Christmas.

We're flooded -- not with sales orders, but with water.

Any comparison to last year's profit is meaningless. So is any comparison to the year before, and the one before that too. In fact, we're still only just getting over the Diana effect.

We were caught out by the sudden weather change. Our summer range of clothing just wasn't selling in November.

The uncertainty surrounding the US Presidential election results has negatively impacted our results. All our lawyers have been seconded to Florida.

And the number one excuse for a profit warning...

The weakness in the euro has caused our Australian operation to trade below expectations.
