I think there are a number of articles on the subject and not all of them take this same view of the market. This one seems quite reasonable and balanced to me:

It looks to me that structured products are neither inherently good or bad and, while not all structured products are going to be appropriate for all investors, some look like very reasonable investment opportunities.
I'm certainly not going to discount the entire sector and will be keeping a careful eye on the market in the future.
