Britons worried that their botched efforts at DIY are affecting their house prices are increasingly opting for the 'DFY' (done for you) option, it has been revealed.
In a survey commissioned by Woolwich mortgages, nearly 50 per cent of Britons admitted they didn't like DIY, with 75 per cent claiming they are no longer interested in makeover/DIY TV programmes.
Rather, 70 per cent of those polled would consider hiring professional help to do their DIY jobs for them, stating a lack of time skill inadequacy as reasons for this.
"It seems that the phrase 'time is money' applies to the UK's new DFY-ers," commented Andy Gray, head of mortgages for Woolwich.
"People think their own time is precious and with the added concern that they are not going to do a good job, people are increasingly turning to experts to get the job done.
"Home improvements can make a tangible difference to the value of peoples homes, but a bad standard of work can drag the price down," Mr Gray added.
Electrical, plumbing and extension works is most likely to be avoided by prospective DIY-ers.
