I've Beaten The Market For The Sixth Year Running

Published in Investing Strategy on 19 December 2006

Fool share tipster Maynard Paton has beaten the market in 2006& and every year since 2001!

I've beaten the market for the sixth year running.

Assuming nothing dramatic happens between now and the end of the year, my share tips for the Motley Fool's Champion Shares service will have outrun the All-Share index during both 2005 and 2006 to extend the 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2004 run of success I achieved when managing the Fool's old Qualiport portfolio.

At the end of 2005, the average gain from all Champion Shares recommendations was 10% versus a 5%* average gain from the All-Share. As at 15 December 2006, the average Champion Share gain had improved to 17% and now compares to a 14%* gain from the index.

I'm generally pleased with this year's tips for Champion Shares. I'm certainly very happy with my May selection of Games Workshop (LSE: GAW) . As at 15 December 2006, this small-cap has since returned 45%**. In the meantime, the market suffered a summer to forget and has returned just 6%***.

Other Champion Shares tips of 2006 I'm very satisfied with include M&CSaatchi (LSE: SAA) , up 56% since March**, Microsoft (LSE: MSF) , up 31% since June** and Cable & Wireless (LSE: CW.) , up 47% since July.**

Of course, not every Champion Shares tip has proved to be a success this year. Two have fallen in value since my initial recommendation, while a third has risen but lagged the performance of the All-Share. Some of my winning tips may in time end up as losers, too.

What now?

I think my share-picking record speaks for itself. During both bull and bear markets, I've managed to outrun the All-Share index consistently. Though I can't offer any guarantees, I believe my index-beating performance can be extended into 2007 and beyond.

You can discover whether I make it seven years in a row by joining the Champion Shares community. A 30-day free trial to Champion Shares is available right now and, for a limited time only, annual membership is now available for £99 -- a 33% discount! I hope you're able to take advantage.
