Many heads are better than one.
The write-ups for the annual Paulypilot's Pub share competiton are coming in thick and fast as we get closer to the deadline. One of the latest ones, from Kiloran, concerns a company that caused heartbeats to lurch back in the dot com boom days, NXT (LSE: NTX). Rather than just offering one's own thoughts, isn't it so much better when a competitor approaches the company discussion board to put together the investment case...?
"To try and give a balanced view of this company, I've worked with the Fool's NXT board to compile this write up. I hope that the end product is reasonably representative of the views of most of the contributors, and extend my thanks to the many who took the time to read my drafts and provide corrections and ideas."
Whether or not you like the idea of an investment in the company, it's a great write-up.
A decade of debt advice
We have an increasing number of Fools who have reached their tenth year with us, and it's great when one of our long-standing and most helpful Fools reaches such an illustrious milestone.
Who is it now? It's that stalwart of the Dealing with Debt board, SON1C, that's who. For ten years he's been offering his expertise on the topics of debt, bailiffs, bankruptcy, and lots more. But what does he say about his Foolish anniversary?...
"10 years eh? you'd think that TMF would stump up for a badge or something wouldn't you? Flamin' cheapskates!
Sitting here at my office desk, the thought has suddenly struck me that I was in my mid forties when I started posting here and now I am in my mid Fifties!!! blimey, that was a decade that went in a heartbeat!"
Well, we haven't got any badges, but if we can arrange a Scouse Fool Social, I'm sure we can arrange a fridge magnet or two. Read the thread if you want to know how to track down SON1C's very first post.
More 'loon days
Talking of birthdays, another of our longstanding and most helpful contributors to the Dealing with Debt board, manzanilla, reached her 8-year Fooliversary this week. Her post on the Your Tomorrow Starts Today board was perhaps modest for such a momentous day...
"It's sunny (if cold), my tax return is filed, my cough is fading away and I have 'loons!"
But the number of recs she got, and the replies in the thread, attest to the amount of top class advice she's offered to those with financial problems in those 8 years.
February Plans
On the same board, SarahStrat welcomes in the month of February...
"Last month we looked back over the distance we have travelled since 2000, and forward to the next decade. We made New Year and New Decade resolutions. Some of them were even kept….. And most importantly we made big plans.
But we also got snowed in and possibly a bit bogged down too at the thought of a decade's challenges and the energy needed to rise to them. Especially when it's so dark and cold outside"
What's the way forward? Well, there are over 60 replies on the thread already, even though the month has hardly got started, so you'll have to read them for yourselves.
And finally...
Have you ever wondered what dead flies get up to on their day off? If not (and we bet you haven't), check out tonyreptiles' recent offering.
Come join us on the boards, and maybe we'll see you here next week.
