It's Competition Time

Join in the Community competitions, or pick up Xmas food tips -- it's all on the boards this week.

NotherHubbard has put in another gargantuan effort to get the Paulypilot's Pub 2010 Share Competition up and running again, this time playing for the NickyFraser Trophy...

"This is the official thread for entering into the Paulypilot's Pub Share Competition 2010 for the NickyFraser Trophy. Read the rules first before entering. If you enter incorrectly as per these rules I will not accept the bid

1. Entry will be by bids made to this thread only. The thread will close at 3pm on Sunday 2 January 2010, which will be the marker for initial prices. The competition will run to closing prices on Friday 31 December 2010"

There have been plenty of entries already, but there are still many hundreds of as-yet unclaimed and eligible shares listed on the London Stock Exchange, so there may well be some unfancied gems still waiting to turn into competition-winning multi-baggers.

And there's still plenty of time to enter -- post your share pick by January 2nd and your write-up after the entries have closed, but before February 28th. But do be sure to read and follow the rules carefully, or your entry might not count.

Guess the price of houses

And if one competition for 2010 wasn't enough, all you have to do to win globalarbtrader's property price competition is to predict the percentage change in the price of houses in the UK for 2010. And to make it worth while, if you win, a generous grand of globalarbtrader's own money will be donated to the charity of your choice...

"As its my last day to post for a while I thought I would encourage people to make some firm predictions for next year. The object is to predict the change in house prices over 2010. The prize is a donation of £1000 by myself to the charity of your choice.

To be very clear the object is to predict the % change in the SA Halifax monthly index i.e. the %change in £ value of the index from the base figure".

It's all a bit of fun, and a charity is going to benefit.

Jazzed-up sprouts

So, what's going on your Christmas dinner plates this year? There's been plenty of talk on the Recipes & Cooking board, including a request from ibbledibble on how best to jazz up sprouts to go with goose...

"...obviously there will be the obligatory goose fat roasted spuds, and honey roasted parsnips and carrots, there will be brussel sprouts, but I don't really want them just plain boiled. would like to jazz them up a little bit".

And if you're not a meat eater, there are some pretty tasty sounding ideas in response to SON1C's request for some veggie ideas...

"Can anyone suggest something tasy and relatively easy to prepare whilst the rest of us are tucking in to our turkey? she is quite happy with the rest of the dinner (roasties and veggies). I usually do my prep work on xmas eve so preferably it would be something I could do then and then warm up or cook on xmas day".

Whatever you eat, and whatever you do, we hope you have a really great Christmas and a very Foolish New year -- we'll be back with a roundup of some of the best posts of the year next week.
