Debt-free day comes for a determined Fool, while another wins a struggle with airline bureaucracy. And there's news of a new investing board, and inspiration from Wimbledon.
Another debt free day
I know we keep crowing about it, but our Dealing with Debt board really is something we're proud of, and it's great to read of another "Debt-free day Happy Dance", like this one from daftduck:
"I am so pleased to be able to report that my Certificate of Completion for my IVA arrived today, and so I am now, finally and officially, debt free! I have never been so pleased to receive a piece of paper in my life! I do not owe any bank, credit company, or indeed anyone, any money whatsoever and now I can truly say that my savings are mine. My MS Money balance sheet looks positively glowing!"
It's a heartwarming read -- go trip those lights, daftduck!
Don't let them grind you down
Have you ever tried to get compensation from an airline for theft from your luggage? Popular phrases involving blood and stones spring to mind, as they'll typically string you out for ages and do anything to get away with paying less. But perseverance pays off, as Satsumaa found out:
"Just thought I'd let the board know about a successful small claims court action against an airline for theft from my luggage.
I had that unfortunate event happen to me late last year. I followed their procedures to the letter for reporting it and just heard nothing back. As notified in my loss report, I then sent a Letter Before Action. "Coincidentally" the very next day after it had been delivered, I had an email referring to my original report (hmmmm), offering me about half of the money I had claimed.
I refused and progressed the claim…"
It's a great read, and a terrific example of a consumer victory.
Pub expansion
Like many of its contemporaries in the world of booze and entertainment, one of our most popular boards, PaulyPilot's Pub, is expanding. But don't worry, it's not doing it by leveraged, debt-fuelled, acquisition -- it is purely organic. There has often been uncertainty about the posting of general investment discussion on the board, which has been mainly dedicated to small-cap discussion, so the landlord has decided on the answer:
"There will now be 2 Boards, as follows;
Paulypilot's Pub - Share Ideas
This board is exclusively for discussion of individual share ideas. So rather than being drowned out in a sea of off-topic stuff, we can get back to what we're good at - i.e. identifying, researching & reporting on undervalued company shares.
[…]
Paulypilot's Pub - Macro Topics
This new Board will be for discussion of other investment topics which we like to discuss here - so general investing topics like where the economy is going, etc are welcome on this board."
Please do read the post for the rest of the details, and do feel free to pop over and visit the new Macro Topics board.
And finally…
Is Wimbledon just about watching the ladies dashing round in short white skirts and cheering on noble British failures? Or does it give us some lessons about success in life itself -- lessons that we can apply every day in our approach to our own investments?
TaurusTheBull certainly appears to have learned a lot, and so can you if you read his tips.
Do pop over and join the Community, where we have a discussion board for just about anything you might care to talk about -- and if we don't, we'll be happy to consider opening one for you.
