People who were unfortunate enough to buy tickets with Buzz and who've found themselves facing cancellations might want to consider joining a class action lawsuit being considered by a firm of London solicitors. Buzz was recently taken over by Ryanair (LSE: RYA) who, if the deal goes through, plan to cancel all flights in April and to terminate flights completely to 12 destinations in Europe. Holidaymakers who bought tickets for April or to one of the 12 cancelled destinations will only get the cost of their flights back even though they may also have spent money on accommodation, car hire and insurance. But according to Ian Guyster of Ian Guyster & Co, under contract law, Ryanair may be liable for more than just the cost of the basic fare and he's considering putting together a group legal action for disgruntled passengers. He says he's been inundated with complaints from people who now cannot go on holiday at all or will have to do so at greater expense. Even people who took out travel insurance at the time of booking may not be able to claim. It depends on the terms and conditions of the policy because while many insurers will cover you for cancellation because of illness or emergency, they don't usually cover you for 'airline failure'. In future passengers affected by any flight delays or cancellation may find European law on their side as the European Parliament has recently been voting on the issue. The vote, which could have significant repercussions for the air industry, is designed to discourage carriers from cancelling flights because they are less than half full and follows a barrage of complaints from customers left high and dry by the new low-cost carriers. MEPs want to place a new requirement on airlines to provide significant sums of cash, as well as catering and accommodation, for passengers who are bumped off flights or have them cancelled altogether. However, before becoming law the measure will have to go through several more stages and needs to be approved by EU ministers. In the meantime, passengers affected by Ryanair's actions could look to Ian Guyster for help. He can be contacted by email at office@ianguyster.co.uk More: Insurance Centre
