A while back, I wrote about my wife's experience of Direct Line's service after someone broke into her car. I was delighted to discover that Direct Line backs up its competitive premiums with a superior service. So, I wasn't surprised to see that Direct Line was included as a Best Buy provider of motor insurance in an independent survey from customer service analysts Direct Excellence. The company obtained quotes for a wide range of driver profiles to reflect varying risks and geographical locations, before compiling its results. Here's its list of Best Buys: These companies' premiums are around 15% lower than the market average, but the firms also obtain some of the highest customer satisfaction ratings. Direct Excellence asked 6,700 motorists for their views on the service provided by their current motor insurers, in order to take this into account in its survey. Sainsbury's Bank won the highest service rating: nine out of ten car insurance policyholders were 'satisfied' or 'very satisfied' with its service. Interesting, isn't it, that all five companies are subsidiaries of, or joint ventures with, banks with strong links to Scotland? After all, Scots have a reputation for knowing a good deal when they see one. Having done a fair bit of shopping around for motor insurance in my time, I'm inclined to agree with Direct Excellence's choices. Incidentally, here are the runners-up - those companies that Direct Excellence awarded 'Recommended' status: Budget, Churchill, Cornhill Direct, Kwik-Fit Insurance, More Th>n and SAGA. So, don't assume that you'll get better service by paying higher premiums, because you don't always get what you pay for. By shopping around, you can save a tidy sum and receive first-rate customer service.
