The Week Ahead: Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?

By James Carlisle
December 13, 2002

The focus in the City next week is likely to be on Christmas parties, so it's no surprise that not a lot is scheduled. Keep your eye out for the occasional unscheduled 'under-the-carpet' job, though.

It's time to 'ask the audience' on Tuesday for Avesco (LSE: AVS), producer of the TV show 'Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?'. The last few months have seen chairman Richard Murray-Obodynski build his stake in the group up to just under 15%.

The market will also not be expecting to see too many millionaires at London Clubs International (LSE: LCI), which has seen its share price slump from around 150p to just 22.5p over the last couple of years. The casino operator is due to produce half-year figures on Tuesday.

And at the risk of wearing the millionaire theme a little thin, you're also unlikely to find many of them at the traders' website ADVFN.com (LSE: AFN). Overtrading adds to costs and hurts returns, but not much of those costs seem to be landing up at ADVFN, which has seen its market value slump from about £172m to £4m since it floated back in the heady days of March 2000. Interim results are expected on Wednesday.

Notable results

Monday: Coffee Republic, Gooch & Housego and Hartstone Group
Tuesday: Avesco, Carpetright, London Clubs and Southern Vectris
Wednesday: ADVFN.com and Hardys & Hansons
Thursday: Bulmer (HP) Holdings
Friday: Peel Holdings.
