Where To Invest In Russia

In this week’s episode:

David finds out from Marina Akopian of HEXAM Capital why there is more to the Russian market than oil and commodities. Despite high levels of inflation and relatively low levels of growth, the rebalancing of the Russian economy could provide rich pickings for canny investors. David and Marina also look at the threat of political, currency and political risks.

The experience of BP and others in doing business in Russia is so bad I wonder at anyone thinking of doing business there. Only when Russia is seen to be stamping on those who use political influence to' mug' investors will it be worth even .considering. It may take some time

Hi Johnpope1

I can't see how political influence played a part.

The ruling of the Swedish tribunal upheld an injunction brought by TNK-BP in the London courts to block BP's Arctic exploration deal with the state-owned enterprise Rosneft.

I might have agreed with you if the injunction was overturned in favour of Rosneft. But it wasn't.

About the presenter

David Kuo is The Motley Fool’s media personality. He can be heard on BBC London’s (94.9FM) Breakfast Show where he arouses listeners every weekday morning with his unique brand of financial news. He is also a regular commentator on national news programmes including CNBC, BBC News, and Sky News.

David stumbled into the world of broadcasting at the turn of the Millennium when he was invited to comment on the stock market crash. He says, “I think I stunned Londoners speechless when I said the good thing about the crash is that shares are now more affordable for people who want to invest in the stock market!”

His attitude to investing has never wavered, as he always sees downturns in the market as a buying opportunity for long-term investors.
