Excellent episode.
Looking forward to more from Owain - the MF consensus will probably give you a hard time, but I for one welcome a broadening of perspective.
And I hope the Water Dragon will continue to linger, even if just in despatches from HK, Sing et al.

Excellent point about cultural differences - Bob Dudley got eaten alive in Russia and Bolton has problems with grasping his position as a modern-day honorary amban.

If this implies a wandering brief, David, I do hope you'll include bird tongues on the buffet for your leaving do!

Thanks ANuvver! David has set the bar incredibly high over the past few years, but hopefully I can at least bring some different perspectives to the podcast table. :)

Hi David,

Greetings from the States! The American Motley Fool podcasts are great, but don't fill my mp3 player with enough listening material for a week, so when you were a guest on MF Money I learned about this show. Sorry to hear you'll be leaving!

To your point about dividends and young people, I'd point out that many young people aren't well established in their careers, probably don't make much, may hop around a good bit from job to job, and especially today may only be working part-time. To those young people, and to investors whose income stream from jobs is patchy for other reasons, dividends are worth more than to other investors; you pay a lot fewer late and overdraft fees if passive income is always there. So there are indirect benefits from dividends for people at that end of the income scale, and that doesn't get talked about enough.

Keep up the good work!

Matt

About the show

MoneyTalk is a podcast from The Motley Fool (UK). Hosted by David Kuo, it’s a lively roundtable discussion where Fool writers and guests from the world of money thrash out the financial issues of the day.

Join us as we take an irreverent look at anything and everything to do with shares – from how to pick your first share to how to manage your own pension to what mini skirts have to do with Britain's economy (quite a lot, according to David).

From quick tips on how to tidy up a wayward portfolio to in depth discussions with industry experts, MoneyTalk tackles a different topic every week.

About the presenter

David Kuo is The Motley Fool’s media personality. He can be heard on BBC London’s (94.9FM) Breakfast Show where he arouses listeners every weekday morning with his unique brand of financial news. He is also a regular commentator on national news programmes including CNBC, BBC News, and Sky News.

David stumbled into the world of broadcasting at the turn of the Millennium when he was invited to comment on the stock market crash. He says, “I think I stunned Londoners speechless when I said the good thing about the crash is that shares are now more affordable for people who want to invest in the stock market!”

His attitude to investing has never wavered, as he always sees downturns in the market as a buying opportunity for long-term investors.
